Brief History of Banerjee Lab

The ‘Banerjee Lab’ started its first footstep in the year of 2007 (October) at Ronald Ross Building, IPGME&R. Later on, the Centre for Liver Research was set up and shifted to the SDLD Building (1st floor), in the year of 2008 (March). From the date onwards, Banerjee Lab is continuing hardcore research there and got decorated with a variety of very latest cutting-edge as well as translational research facilities, reproducing number of good publications each year.

SAYANTANI BHOWMIK

PhD student (ICMR-SRF)

MSc. Biochemistry, Calcutta University

Sayantani is studying the role of a novel alternate splice variant, SCARB1, in hepatocarcinogenesis. As our senior most student, who is almost Dr. Bhowmik, we wish her all the best!

SWAGATA MAJUMDAR

PhD Student (UGC-SRF)

MSc. Microbiology, Calcutta University

Swagata is studying the therapeutic role of KCNQ1OT1, a lncRNA, in hepatocellular carcinoma. Swagata is currently in her final year and is in the last lap of this race

ANANNYA CHAKRABORTY

PhD Student (SRF)

MSc. Biotechnology, Jadavpur University

Anannya is studying the role of miRNA, miR-126-5p, in promoting stemness and chemoresistance in hepatocellular carcinoma.

INDRASHISH DEY

PhD student (UGC-SRF)

MSc. Physiology, Calcutta University

Indrashish's goal is to study the role of exosome-enriched RNA binding proteins (RBPs) in the M2 polarisation of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) and their impact on the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma.

SOUMYABRATA CHATTERJEE

PhD Student (UGC-SRF)

MSc. Physiology, Calcutta University

Soumyabrata is currently studying the link between telomere length and the aggressiveness of hepatocellular carcinoma.

DEEYA ROY CHOWDHURY

PhD Student (JRF)

MSc. Zoology, Calcutta University

Deeya is trying to study the impact of enhancer/super-enhancer elements on the overexpression of genes and cluster miRNAs, on the development and progression of hepatocellular carcinoma.

ANUSMRITI DAS

PhD Student (DBT-JRF)

MSc. Zoology, University of Burdwan

Anusmriti is currently focusing on the role of exosome-enriched circular RNAs in driving M2 polarisation and its impact on the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma.

SUBHAS DAS

PhD Student (UGC-JRF)

Subhas is interested in studying the role of circular RNAs in the chemoresistance of HCC and is also trying to identify potential therapeutic targets.

Research Projects

Thematic Area

Research at the Banerjee Lab involves non-coding RNA (ncRNA) mediated regulation of stemness and chemoresistance development. We also study the effect of such regulatory ncRNAs in the tumor microenvironment.

While our main focus is hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), we also study the virology of HBV and HCV and how they cause HCC. Another project our lab is exploring right now studies ulcerative colitis.
